United Way and Jim Abbot Promote Childhood Literacy

Jim Abbot who is a former MLB pitcher is a native of Flint, Michigan and has a genuine care for the people of the city.  He had the great opportunity to work with United Way to help the children of Flint increase their reading literacy level to where they need to be to succeed in school.

While Jim was working with the United Way the GM foundation presented a $70,000 check to United Way to help with their new “A to Z Learn With Me.” project.  This amazing gift was given while Jim Abbot and the United Way were at the General Motors Flint Assembly plant.

Jim and his daughter had their own special gift back to the community as well.  Jim and his daughter co-wrote, “Follow Your Dreams” and with the help of the United Way they will be given to given to parents of newborns in the community.  The goal is to give approximately 6000 of these books to Flint families.
